Poems by Gill-Chin Lim
Dr. Gill-Chin Lim of Michigan State University is engaged in
secral activities of services and
enlightenment through several organizations, most of which he
founded . Most, but not all, of
his activities are documented in the Program on Humanistic Globalization (POHG) website at
www.pohg.org. Links to other projects such as
Consortium on Development Studies, Citizens for
Decent Housing and Council on Korean Studies, and many others, are
posted in that webite. In
addition, Dr. Lim serves as a managing Editor of the Society of Korean-American Scholars (SKAS)
and is a member of OKSPN, the Overseas Korean Senior Professionals Network, a subunit of SKAS.
With all those activities swirling around him, one wouldn't
think he would have time to
compose poems. But he manages to do just that!
He is a published poet. Here we collect some of
his poems that have been published in the newsletters KASTN and
IEKAS. More will be addred to
this collection.
TWELVE PILLARS OF LIFE
(published in KASTN, Issue 03-44, December 10, 2003)
Smile and don't get angry.
Neither hide nor exhibit yourself.
Feel happy and do not hate.
Be independent materially and spiritually.
Admit your mistakes and improve yourself.
Be aware of your ignorance and learn from others.
Seek advice from others, but make decisions on your own.
Treat everybody equally, whoever they may be.
Cherish the old as well as the new.
Practice what you know.
Love everything.
Be persistent.
POEM FOR THE NEW YEAR
(published in IEKAS, Issue 04-02, January 16, 2004)
Looking into the Sun
I open my arms
To spread my wings
The air fills my chest
Soon I feel Peace
Over the mountains
Across rivers
Over the prairies
Into to ocean
I grab your hands
We jump and fly
We touch them all
Every tree
Every rock
Every drop of water
Their song embraces our soul
Soon we learn Love
Over the mountains
Across rivers
Over the prairies
Into to ocean
We dance together
You and I
I and you
They touch us all
Every tree
Every rock
Every drop of water
The Sun rises again
In this New Year
For Peace
For Love
For your preciousness
