THE GLOBAL KOREA AWARD

  Presented annually since 1995 by the Council on Korean Studies at
 Michigan State University


    ElIGIBILITY:
    Individuals or groups who have made significant contributions quietly and steadily to the promotion
    of cross-cultural understanding, global education, and well-being of Korean people around the world.

    NOMINATION:
    Qualified candidates may be nominated by submitting a letter of nomination which is supported by
    at least three references.  The nomination must include a comprehensive biography or resume of
    the candidate.

    SELECTION COMMITTEE:
    The Board of Directors reviews the award candidates and solicits the recipient(s) of the award by
    majority votes. This selection process involves recommendation of the general meeting of the
    Council on Korean Studies at Michigan State University.

    SELECTION CRITERIA:
    The following describes the criteria of selecting the recipient(s) of the award.
        1. Demonstrated commitment and unselfish devotion to the well-being of Korean community and
            global society;
        2. Significant contribution to the improvement of understanding between Korean and people
            around the world;
        3. Exceptional devotion to quality education for young generation in Korea and the world;
        4. Outstanding achievement in scholarly and creative work that advances global understanding
           of Korea in the global community.

  Awardees for the Global Korea Award 2002 (its 8th year)
     The awardees for the 2002 Global Korea Award have been announced on August 28, 2002
     and they are:

        Dr. Park, Yoon-Soo  (Korean American Scholarship Foundation),
        Dr. Kleiner, Jurgen  (Professor, Boston University, former German Ambassador to
                                       South Korea),
        Dr. Moon, Katharine  (Jane Bishop Professor, Wellesley College),
        Mr. Moon, Kook Hyun  (President, Yuhan-Kimberly, Korea),
        Dr. Kim, Ung Soo  (Professor Emeritus, Catholic University of America).


 Including Dr. Yoon-Soo Park, one of 2002 awardees, 6 individuals associated with
