FILES:This page includes the files I used to simulate a 2-D ising spin system. It is very similar to the pseudo-code in Schroeder's Thermal Physics book. Brian Tighe (a classmate of mine at Duke) began this project and we combined efforts to arrive at this code. The outputs are *.xpm graphics files and gnuplot-readable data files. See the included writeup for examples of the output. The ising spin system in two dimensions relies on the assumption that nearest-neighbor spins have an influence on the orientation of their neighbors that is determined by the Boltzmann factor. Thus, for a certain temperature random spins will flip orientation, and whether or not a spin will flip depends on its four neighbors and the temperature of the system. This is my writeup for the project:Please contact me if you have questions or comments. -AMD |
