A Resource for the Community

Students, researchers, and professors from the physics department have enjoyed taking science out of the lab and into the community. By bringing hands-on activities and cutting edge science to the general public, particularly K-12 classrooms, we hope to inspire the next generation of scientists and citizens.

Many types of outreach activies have been conducted in the past, and many of the following were developed in response to specific requests.

Some of the current activities include the following:

Astronomy

  • Observing using the telescopes in Duke Forest. Look here for last minute information about weather and the status of this week's viewing.
  • Various activities at local schools

Other

  • Tours of research facilities
  • Perform astonishing and enlightening physics demonstrations
  • Serve as a resource for lessons you are developing
  • Talk about careers/current research in physics
  • Answer thorny questions
