  • December 6, 2007:
    Horacio Carias (G06) [left] and Henok Mebrahtu (G06) [right] have been awarded the Nanoscience Awards for the Spring 2008.
  • November 29, 2007:
    Soojeong Choi (G01) defended her thesis and passed. Congratulations!
  • November 24, 2007:

    Qiang (Alan) Ye (G02) [left] and James Esterline (G03) [right] and have been awarded prestigious Henry W. Newson Fellowships in TUNL. See also Henry W. Newson.

    Shomeek Mukhopadhyay (G03/04) defended his thesis and passed. Congratulations!
  • October 24, 2007:
    Seth Henshaw (G05) passed his preliminary exam.
  • October 2007:
    In the recent grand opening of the Diamond Light Source facility, in Oxfordshire, UK, Emily Longhi (Ph.D. 2006) was one of the scientists selected to present and explain her work to Her Majesty, Elizabeth II, the queen of England.
  • October 19, 2007:
    Joel Greenberg (G05) has been awarded a prestigious, two-year (2007-2009) John T. Chambers Fellowship in the Fitzpatrick Institute for Photonics.
  • October 2007:
    Anand Priyadarshee (Ph.D. 2006) have joined Carnegie Mellon university CS department as a postdoc.
  • October 2007:
    Shomeek Mukhopadhyay (G03) is going to a South Eastern Atlantic Mathematical Sciences Workshop (SEAMS, or "Cha-Cha Days"), and he is giving an invited talk on October 20th.
  • October 2, 2007:
    Congratulations to Sara and John Foreman (G02) on the birth of their son, Andrew David, born at 2:00 a.m. October 2, 2007 at Huntsville Hospital. He weighs 4 lbs. 15 oz. and is 17 1/2 inches long. Everyone is doing fine.
  • September 22, 2007:
    John Wambaugh (G01) was married with Ann Marie Pitruzzello (BME Duke). They met first in Phy 230.
  • 8/29/07:
    Somayeh Farhadi (G07) is the last of the 10 new students. She was late because the US/Iran documents took a long time.
  • 8/26/07: Physics Picnic 2007
    There were pig pickin', tightrope, volleyball, games, music, etc.

    Kristine Callan (G05) has been awarded the Department of Physics Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award.

  • 8/14/07:
    Ivan Borzenets (G06) wins a Nanoscience Award for Fall 2007.
  • 8/10/07:
    Wenzhong Wu (G04) passed his preliminary exam.
  • 8/9/07:
    Five new students are here for the Extended Orientation 2007: Baolei Li, Jie Ren, Mengyang Sun, Yang Yang, and Yunhui (Rena) Zhu (all G07):
  • August 2007:
    Abhijit Mehta (G06) is going to a summer school in England, on Quantum Transport and Dynamics in Nanostructures.
  • 7/11/07:
    Matthew Blackston (G02) defended his thesis and passed. Congratulations!
  • 7/10/07:
    Brian Bunton (G02) defended his thesis and passed. Congratulations!
  • Summer 2007:
    Shangying Wang (G06) got married this summer in China, with Shutong Jiang.
  • July 2007:
    Matthew Blackston (G02) accepts Postdoc position at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory ORNL). He will be working in the Nuclear Materials Detection and Characterization Group which is part of Nuclear Security Technologies at ORNL.
  • July 2007:
    Brian Bunton (G02) accepts Visiting Assistant Professor position at Coastal Carolina University (Conway, SC).
  • 2007:
    Abhijit Mehta (G06) wins a research award in association with being chosen as a "Graduate Mentor in the University Scholars Program for 2007-08".
  • June 2007:
    Kristine Callan (G05) awarded a Graduate Teaching Fellow; she will be teaching the lab sections of Optics and Modern Physics (Phy 143) this fall semester.
