I would be pleased to hear from suitable candidates. Recent papers (with students and postdocs): Predicting the Progress of Diffusively Limited Chemical Reactions in the Presence of Chaotic Advection, PRL 96, 024501 (2006). Elastic Instabilities of Polymer Solutions in Cross-Channel Flow, PRL 96, 144502 (2006). Comparing flow thresholds and dynamics for oscillating and inclined granular layers, PRE 75, 061307 (2007). Curvature Fields, Topology, and the Dynamics of Spatiotemporal Chaos, PRL 99, 194502 (2007). Polymer Drop Breakup in Microchannels, PRE, to appear (2008). Stretching Fields and Mixing in Two-Dimensional Turbulence, submitted (2008) Current and Future Projects (a) Dynamics of particles of varying sizes in flows at modest Reynolds number, to understand how their behavior depends on inertia, size, and shape. (b) Response of a jammed floating monolayer of particles to shear stresses, to explore the rheology of soft glassy materials. (c) Self-organization and transition to irreversibility of a suspension of particles flowing in a microchannel, to understand the origins of irreversibility. (d) Topological studies of the dynamics of spatiotemporal chaos in fluids. An experimental Ph.D. in physics (or in mechanical or chemical engineering) is required, along with experience and publications in experimental fluid or nonlinear dynamics, or soft matter physics. Haverford is a selective research-oriented college in the Philadelphia suburbs. We interact with the condensed matter group at Penn. Mentored teaching opportunities may be available for a candidate interested in an eventual positions where teaching and research are both important. Previous postdoctoral associates now hold academic appointments at University of Pennsylvania, University of Maryland, Wesleyan University, and Clark University. For more information, see http://www.haverford.edu/physics-astro/Gollub/ Interested applicants: Please send cover letter and CV (PDF file) to jgollub@haverford.edu. Two letters of reference will also be needed (by e-mail). I hope to speak with candidates at the March APS Meeting. Jerry Gollub ---------------------------------------------------------- Jerry P.
