PHY 306: Radiation Detection

Course Description

Introduction to detection of charged particles, photons and neutrons. Emphasis on active detector techniques: ionization detectors, scintillators and semiconductors; some passive methods mentioned. Quick review of radiation interaction with matter, followed by general detector characteristics, practical measurement techniques, signal processing and brief overview of radiation protection.
