PHY 281: Classical Mechanics

Course Description

Newtonian, Lagrangian, and Hamiltonian methods for classical systems; symmetry and conservation laws; rigid body motion; normal modes and forced oscillations; small nonlinear oscillations; canonical transformations; Hamiltonian chaos.

Prerequisites

This is part of the core curriculum of the graduate program in Physics. Consent of instructor is required for undergraduates. Students are expected to have basic skills in computer programming in C, Fortran or Mathematica.
