PHY 205: Introduction to Nuclear and Particle Physics

Course Description

Phenomenological aspects of nuclear physics, interaction of gamma radiation and charged particles with matter, nuclear detectors, particle accelerators, radioactivity, basic properties of nuclei, nuclear systematics, direct and resonance reactions, photonuclear reactions, description of the strong N-N force, nuclear models, the Standard Model, symmetries.

Prerequisites

Course is a survey course for graduate students. First year graduate quantum mechanics is required, or may be taken concurrently.
